Publicity Officer

As a Publicty Officer you will have lots of ideas to help us spread the word about the work of SSAFA in your community.

About the role

As Publicity Officer you will ensure we have a high profile by coordinating all local press, publicity and public relations activities. You’ll always be looking for opportunities to publicise our work, including through working with local press, TV and radio. Other ways you’ll be raising awareness of our work locally will be by planning and creating displays, designing event posters and literature and more.

Volunteering with SSAFA is special because you get to see first hand the difference you make to people’s lives. As Publicity Officer you’ll spend your time working with our clients and volunteers and finding ways to use their experiences, contacts and talents to talk about the work we do. You’ll work closely and be supported by your local Awareness and Fundraising Manager and the Secretary who oversees all work in your area.

This is a great opportunity to offer your expertise and local knowledge to benefit others in your community, while you develop new skills and meet some inspirational people.

Who we're looking for

We’ll give you local induction training about SSAFA and you will take part in a Corporate Communications and Marketing Workshop when you join us.

You do not need a Forces background to volunteer with us. Most importantly, we are looking for volunteers who will listen sensitively and treat people with respect at all times. We also welcome people who have:

  • Willingness to develop new skills and train for new things
  • Basic IT skills
  • Ability to work in a team and support others
  • Ability to work within our Volunteer Policy and Code of Conduct
  • Ability to work confidentially
  • A driver’s licence (for some geographical areas).
